Wellow and Stoney Littleton Long Barrow Circular Walk
This circular walk takes you to the Stoney Littleton Long Barrow from the Somerset village of Wellow.
The main highlight of the walk is the ancient Neolithic chambered tomb which is located a short walk south of the village. It dates back to 3500 BC and is located in a scenic spot with some fine countryside views. The site is run by English Heritage with more histroical information here.
The route also includes some splendid views of the pretty Wellow Brook and a small hill climb.
You can continue your walking in the area on the Wellow Brook Walk which explores the Wellow Brook Valley to the north of the village.

North-west corner of Stoney Littleton long barrow. In the foreground is the north-west corner of Stoney Littleton long barrow, with its kerb of drystone walling. The small stone on the left was to mark the edge of the Scheduled Ancient Monument when the ploughing in this field used to come right up to the barrow. Since its recent restoration by English Heritage it has been surrounded by a fence in a rectangular enclosure. Wellow village is visible in the distance.
