Bidford on Avon Walks
This delightful Warwickshire village has some lovely river and country trails to enjoy. Features in the historic settlement include a Grade I listed bridge dating from the early 15th century and Big Meadow, a 26 acre recreational park next to the river. There's also some lovely riverside pubs to relax in after your exercise.
This circular walk from the village takes you along the river to visit neighbouring Welford before heading through the countryside to Dorsington. The route makes use of the Avon Valley Footpath and the Heart of England Way which run through the area.
The walk starts in the village where you can pick up the Avon Valley Footpath and follow the waymarked trail east along a pleasant riverside path to Welford. Here you'll find a number of attractive Tudor half-timbered and thatched cottages.
You then head south west, following footpaths through farmland to Braggington and Dorsington.
The route then heads north west towards Barton before returning to the river and following it back into Bidford.

Pubs/Cafes
Head to The Bridge for some post walk refreshment. The riverside inn is in a lovely riverside location overlooking the Saxon bridge. You can sit outside and enjoy a high quality meal on the two level decking area if the sun is shining. You can find them at postcde B50 4BG for your sat navs.
Next door is The Frog which also has a lovely riverside garden.
Dog Walking
The river and country trails make for a fine dog walk. The Frog mentioned above is also dog friendly.
Further Information and Other Local Ideas
From the village you could follow the Heart of England Way north to visit Oversley Wood and the old Roman town of Alcester. On the way would also pass Ragley Hall. The fine stately home dates from the 17th century and is surrounded by attractive parklands and gardens.
Heading east will take you to Stratford Upon Avon where you can visit the Shakespeare's Globe theatre and pick up the towpath of the Stratford Upon Avon Canal for some more waterside walking.
To the north west is the village of Inkberrow. It's a worthy place to visit with a picturesque village green, a historic church and a fine 16th century pub. The settlement is also notable as the model for Ambridge, the setting of BBC Radio 4's long-running series The Archers.
