Powerstock Common
This pretty nature reserve is located close to the town of Bridport in Dorset. There's a series of nice footpaths to follow through woodland and grassland with lots of interesting flora and fauna to look out for. You can start your walk from the car park off Barrowland Lane. From here you can pick up the trails heading south east through Wytherston Wood. On the way look out for wildlife including fallow deer, willow warbler and chiffchaff. You can also enjoy views of the coast from the elevated position of the common.
The common is located just north of Eggardon Hill where there is an Iron Age Hillfort and fine views over the Marshwood Vale.

Head to the Three Horseshoes Inn in Powerstock for some post walk refreshments. The village pub is set in the heart of the most idyllic Dorset countryside. There's a great menu and a nice outdoor seating area with views over the countryside. You can find it at Dugberry Hill with postcode DT6 3TF for sat navs.
Further Information and Other Local Ideas
Near Bridport there's the climb to the lovely viewpoint at Colmers Hill from the picturesque village of Symondsbury. The historic village includes an ancient church and a noteworthy 15th century, thatched pub.
Just a couple of miles to the east of Bridport there's Shipton Gorge where you can enjoy a climb to Shipton Hill and visit the splendid 15th century church of St Martin.

Old brick kiln, Powerstock Common
Old trackbed and cutting, Powerstock Common, Dorset Wildlife Trust. This disused railway runs along the northern part of the common.
Green Winged Orchid. An example of some of the attractive flora you can see at the site. You can also see wild daffodils and carpets of lovely bluebells in the spring months. During the summer the wildflowers appear with a variety of butterflies to look out for.

The village of Powerstock. Located to the west of the common. The village includes Powerstock Castle, a medieval motte and bailey castle. There's also the historic St Mary's Parish Church dateing from the 12th century. It is a Grade I listed building.
