Brereton Heath Local Nature Reserve Walk
Explore 50 acres of silver birch and oak woodland in this country park and nature reserve in Davenport. The park also includes a 15 acre lake, heathland, a wildflower meadow and wetland areas. Look out for woodpeckers, nuthatch, treecreepers, kingfisher, heron, great crested grebe and goldfinch as you make your way through the park.
The Dane Valley Way runs through the park so you could continue your walk along the River Dane towards Holmes Chapel or Congleton.

Head north into Swettenham and you could pay a visit to the noteworthy Swettenham Arms. The 16th century country inn includes a lovely Lavender garden where you can enjoy fine food on a summer day. You can find them at postcode CW12 2LF for your sat navs. The Swettenham Walk starts from the pub and visits the park. It's about a 3.5 mile walk from the pub to the park, crossing the River Dane on the Dane Valley Way.s
Dog Walking
The woodland trails are ideal for dog walking so you're bound to bump into other owners on your visit. Please keep them under close control because of the wildlife. The Swettenham arms mentioned above is also dog friendly.

Head east into nearby Congleton and there's some lovely waterside walks to be found at Astbury Mere Country Park and the Macclesfield Canal.
The Holmes Chapel Walk starts from the nearby village and follows the River Dane to the reserve. It also visits the nearby Swettenham Meadows Nature Reserve where there's more interesting flora and fauna to see.

Autumn comes to Brereton Heath. This small clump of trees, with their autumn foliage, on the meadow area at the Country Park, makes a lovely splash of colour.
Brereton Heath Lake. In 1959 silica sand, which is used extensively in the glass-making industry and for making metal casting moulds, was discovered on this site and a quarry was dug here. This quarry was producing up to 500 tonnes per day until the pure silica ran out in 1972, and the site was abandoned leaving behind a massive hole that eventually filled with water and this lake was formed. The car park and visitor centre can be seen on the far side of the lake. Warning signs exist around the lake and a head-first diver was rendered tetraplegic and without any remedy in the law in the leading legal case of Tomlinson v Congleton Borough Council.
The Visitor Centre at the site is maintained to a very high standard.
This bridle path is a fenced route that follows the back border of the Country Park. This allows horse riders a chance to enjoy the park without chewing up the main footpaths.
