This village near Leeds has a series of pleasant waterside footpaths to try. It's a nice place for an easy walk with plenty of wildfowl to see and a fine riverside pub for post walk refreshment.
This walk from the village visits the Allerton Ings and St Aidan's nature reserve. In the village you'll find a number of small lakes or 'Ings' with pleasant waterside footpaths. The River Aire also runs through the area so there's plenty of water loving wildlife to look out for on the way. Keep your eyes peeled for species such as bittern, marsh harrier and skylark on the walk.

The Boat is a traditional pub located next to the River Aire. There's a good menu and nice garden to sit out in on warmer days. You can find them at postcode WF10 2BX. The pub is dog friendly if you have your canine friend with you.

These lakes, ponds, ings, have formed over the former pit under the village, depressed since the closure of the mines, but now undergoing resurgence with the advent of Millennium Village ("the place that's going to be the place to be") - built by English Partnerships and comprising new affordable housing, commercial and industrial premises.
